According to law enforcement, the 25-year-old suspect entered the employee parking area of a car dealership located in West Palm Beach, Florida. Once inside the lot, the suspect allegedly got into a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe and drove away.
West Palm Beach police were called to the scene to investigate. Police obtained security camera footage that reportedly shows the suspect stealing the red Hyundai.
Police got in touch with a GPS company that was able to track the vehicle to a location near Military Trail and Durham Road in West Palm Beach. When police got to the scene, the vehicle had been abandoned; however, police did find the suspect’s wallet on the driver’s seat.
Investigators were also able to get the suspect’s fingerprints from various surfaces in the car.
According to Palm Beach County records, the suspect has a criminal record. He was reportedly arrested on a prior occasion for burglary, resisting an officer, and leaving the scene of an accident.
After being arrested and charged in this latest theft incident, the suspect was transported to the Palm Beach County Jail. He was being held at the facility in lieu of $8,000 bail.
Meanwhile, the stolen vehicle has been returned to its owner.
