A Lake Worth Florida man has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after allegedly causing a DWI accident in Greenacres, FL.
Greenacres police received a call about a hit-and-run accident near Jackson Avenue and Lake Worth Road shortly before 11 p.m. When police deputies got to the scene, law enforcement was already speaking to the victim.
According to authorities, the 49-year-old suspect was found in a truck near the accident scene. The suspect’s vehicle was identified as a Chevy Colorado.
Police reportedly observed the suspect struggle to get out of his truck. Police attributed this to the suspect’s high level of intoxication. According to law enforcement, Greenacres deputies needed to assist the suspect and help him maintain his balance as he got out of the truck.
When a police officer began to speak to the suspect, he allegedly interrupted the officer and rambled about hallucinations involving a car with passengers armed with guns. He also reportedly told police that someone was trying to kill him.
A police affidavit indicated that the suspect smelled of alcohol when police officers spoke with him.
A short time after the accident, police administered field sobriety tests. The suspect allegedly struggled to perform the tests.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said that the suspect has been previously convicted of DUI on three occasions. Additionally, his Florida driver’s license was reportedly revoked in 2009.
After being arrested and processed for this latest alleged DUI incident, the suspect was held in police custody on a $20,000 bail amount.
