West Palm Beach FL Police Arrest Man Accused of Assault, Violent Carjacking

West Palm Beach Carjacking SuspectWest Palm Beach police recently arrested a man who allegedly committed a violent carjacking.

According to authorities, the carjacking occurred on the 500 block of 44th Street in West Palm Beach, Florida. The victim was walking toward his vehicle, a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo, when the 32-year-old suspect allegedly approached him from behind and attacked him. Police said that the suspect punched the victim in the back of the head and the right shoulder several times.

After assaulting the victim, the suspect allegedly rifled through the victim’s pockets and stole his car keys.

When the suspect was unable to start the car, he exited the vehicle and abandoned the carjacking attempt. He then allegedly used a knife to slash three of the tires on the victim’s car.

Police officers later found the suspect while looking for a suspect in an unrelated case. When police approached the suspect, he allegedly threw a cell phone over a nearby fence. Police retrieved the phone and determined that it belonged to the victim in the earlier carjacking.

Police officers later spoke with the suspect, who allegedly confessed to the attempted carjacking.

The suspect has been charged with a number of crimes, including carjacking, criminal mischief, and robbery. The robbery charges stemmed from the suspect allegedly being caught while in possession of a stolen bike.

If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the carjacking charges, he faces significant penalties. As set forth by Florida Statutes Section 812.133, carjacking is a first degree felony. A conviction for first degree carjacking could lead to a sentence of up to 30 years in Florida State Prison.

After being arrested and charged, the suspect was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail. He was being held at the jail on a $75,000 bail amount.

According to state criminal records, the suspect has a prior criminal record and was sentenced to prison time on at least two previous occasions.
