Delray Beach FL Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Enticing Minor to Have Sex
A Delray Beach FL man was recently sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for trying to lure a minor into unlawful sexual activity.
The 62-year-old suspect, a retired school principal from Indiana, allegedly sent sexually explicit messages to an undercover police officer posing as a 15-year-old. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the suspect used social media to contact the undercover cop.
After exchanging messages online, the suspect reportedly arranged a meeting in person with the individual he believed to be a 15-year-old minor. When the suspect showed up for the meeting, he was placed under arrest by Boynton Beach police officers.
During a subsequent investigation, authorities learned that the suspect allegedly exchanged sexually explicit messages with an actual 15-year-old boy at an earlier time. According to federal prosecutors, the suspect also traveled to the victim’s home and tried to have sex with him.
In March, the suspect pleaded guilty to two counts of enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity.
Now the defendant has finally been sentenced for committing the sex crimes. A federal judge sentenced the defendant to a 10-year prison sentence. Additionally, the defendant will be required to serve a 10-year term of supervised release after his prison sentence ends. Moreover, the suspect will be required to register as a sex offender.
