According to law enforcement, the six suspects walked into the Chase Bank located at 3901 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton, Florida. The suspects reportedly entered the bank separately, all over the course of just a few minutes. The theft occurred around noon.
Once inside the bank, some of the suspects allegedly distracted bank employees. While the bank workers were distracted, the other suspects allegedly went to the back of the bank and gained access to the safety deposit boxes.
According to Boca Raton police, the suspects pried open the boxes and dumped the items into several duffel bags.
Authorities believe that the suspects got away with cash, jewelry, and documents contained inside the safe deposit boxes.
Once the suspects had the items, they left the bank in a hurry. Several of the men reportedly got into a champagne-colored minivan. Two of the suspects reportedly walked away from the scene.
Boca Raton police recently released descriptions of the suspects. All of the suspects have been described as Hispanic males who are in their 20s or 30s. According to witnesses, the suspects were well dressed at the time of the bank robbery.
If any of the suspects are eventually identified and apprehended, they could face significant criminal penalties. As set forth by Florida Statutes Section 812.13, a person can be charged with robbery if they take money or other property and use force or put other people in fear. A conviction on second degree robbery charges can potentially result in a sentence of 15 years in Florida State Prison.
