Man Arrested After Allegedly Offering Couple Ride, Robbing Them in Lake Worth FL

Lake Worth FL Armed Robbery LawyersPalm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a homeless man who allegedly tried to rob a couple at gunpoint.

According to authorities, the 29-year-old suspect offered to give a car ride to a husband and wife who were looking to hail a cab. The destination was the West Palm Beach Treatment Center, a drug treatment center located on 1497 Forest Hill Boulevard.

The victims were staying at the Sunshine Inn on the South Dixie Highway. The suspect allegedly offered to drive the victims from the motel parking lot to the drug treatment center in exchange for a $5 fare.

However, not long after the car pulled out of the motel parking lot, the suspect allegedly stopped the vehicle. He then reportedly pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the male victim and chillingly said, “You know what time it is.” The suspect then allegedly demanded the victim’s money.

When the victim refused to give up his cash, the suspect allegedly struck him with the gun. As a result, the victim reportedly suffered a laceration over his left eye.

After striking the male victim, the suspect reportedly dragged the victim out of the vehicle and threw him onto the pavement. With the female victim already safely out of the vehicle, the suspect started the car and fled the scene.

The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office immediately began an investigation. Deputies with the agency realized that they had already made contact with the suspect just a day earlier. They quickly located the suspect and placed him under arrest.

The suspect has been charged with robbery with a firearm. If the suspect is convicted on the robbery charges, he could face significant criminal penalties. That’s because Florida Statutes Section 812.13 classifies robbery with a firearm as a first degree felony.

After being arrested and charged, the suspect was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail. He is being held at the facility without bond.
