Man Accused of Burglarizing Cars, Lighting Several on Fire in Lake Park, Florida
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who allegedly broke into several vehicles in Lake Park, Florida.
According to law enforcement, the 23-year-old suspect entered vehicles parked in a Lake Park neighborhood during the early morning hours. Once the suspect had broken into the cars, he allegedly smashed turn signal arms in several of the vehicles.
The crime spree allegedly began when the suspect gained access to two vehicles at the Lake Park Mitsubishi dealership. He allegedly broke the turn signal arms off a BMW and a Corvette at the business. Police were able to link the suspect to the crimes because he reportedly left his iPhone in one of the cars.
According to witnesses, the suspect appeared to be drunk while he committed the break-ins.
Afterwards, the suspect reportedly went to a halfway house where he lived. Staff members at the halfway house later told police that the suspect acted belligerently and then walked out of the facility.
A few hours later, the suspect allegedly broke into a number of cars parked in a plaza on Lake Avenue. The suspect reportedly lit five vehicles on fire.
Police officers were eventually called to the scene. When Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies saw the suspect, he was sitting in a Ford pickup truck. According to authorities, the suspect told police, “You found the bandit.”
The suspect was placed under arrest without incident. He has been charged with a number of felonies, including five counts of second degree arson and nine counts of burglary. The suspect has also been charged with multiple misdemeanors, including trespassing and property damage.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was transported to the Palm Beach County Jail. He was initially being held at the jail without bond.
